How to Get Your Med Spa Recommended by ChatGPT and Google AI

Patients can now type questions like "who does natural-looking Botox near me?" into ChatGPT, or see an AI summary at the top of Google before they ever click a link. That's med spa AI search, and if your med spa isn't in those answers, you're invisible right when someone is deciding where to book.

Good news: there's no secret trick. The companies behind these tools have published how their systems find websites. Most of it comes back to doing the basics really well. Here's what they say, and what it means for your med spa.

What Google says about AI Overviews and AI Mode

Google's own documentation, AI features and your website, is pretty direct. It says there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, and no special optimizations necessary. To be shown as a supporting link, a page must be indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet.

Google also says you don't need to create new machine-readable files, "AI text files," or special schema to appear. So if someone's selling you an "AI file" as the magic fix, ask questions.

What Google does list as worthwhile:

Google also points site owners to its guidance on creating helpful, reliable, people-first content. For a med spa, that means pages written to actually help a patient decide, not pages stuffed with "best med spa near me" phrases.

What OpenAI says about ChatGPT search

OpenAI documents its crawlers on its Overview of OpenAI Crawlers page. The key one for visibility is OAI-SearchBot, which is used to surface websites in ChatGPT's search features. OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot won't be shown in ChatGPT search answers (though they can still appear as navigational links), and recommends allowing OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt.

There's a separate crawler, GPTBot, used for training AI models. OpenAI says the two settings are independent, so you can allow OAI-SearchBot for search visibility while making your own choice about GPTBot.

Action item: ask whoever manages your website to check your robots.txt file. Some website templates and security plugins block AI crawlers by default. You may never know it's happening.

Why med spas have an edge here (if they use it)

AI tools try to answer a patient's real question: who offers this treatment, what is it, what should I expect, is this place legitimate? When your own website answers those questions clearly, these systems have something solid to work with.

A single "Services" page with one sentence per treatment gives a search system, or a patient, very little to go on. That's hard to recommend with confidence.

Build one strong page per treatment

Give each core treatment its own page: Botox and other neurotoxins, fillers, HydraFacial, microneedling, laser hair removal, GLP-1 weight management, and so on. Each page should cover:

Make your clinical credibility visible

In Florida, the law requires that any advertisement for health care services naming a practitioner identify the type of license that practitioner holds (s. 456.072(1)(t), Florida Statutes). That's a legal requirement. It also happens to be exactly the kind of trust signal that helps patients choose. Put provider names, license types, and a short bio on your treatment pages and your About page.

Keep your Google Business Profile accurate

Google specifically mentions keeping Business Profile information up to date. Make sure your name, address, phone, hours, categories, and services match your website exactly, and follow Google's guidelines for representing your business.

Earn real reviews, the right way

Reviews matter to patients and to the platforms that show your business. But fake or incentivized reviews aren't a shortcut. The FTC's rule on consumer reviews and testimonials (16 CFR Part 465) prohibits fake reviews and buying reviews that express a particular sentiment. Ask every happy patient for an honest review, make it easy with a direct link, and respond professionally to every review, good or bad.

How to check where you stand

Try it yourself: open ChatGPT (with search) and Google, and ask the questions your patients ask, like "Where can I get HydraFacial in [your city]?" or "Who offers medically supervised weight loss near [your neighborhood]?" Note who shows up, and what those businesses' websites do well.

One thing to keep in mind: neither Google nor OpenAI guarantees inclusion. Google says plainly that meeting all its requirements doesn't guarantee a page will be crawled, indexed, or shown. What you can control is making your site the clearest, most trustworthy answer out there.
